기간투라속(Gigantura)은 홍메치목에 속하는 조기어류 속의 하나이다.^[1] 기간투라과(Giganturidae)의 유일속으로 2종을 포함하고 있다.^[1] 드물게 잡히며, 전세계의 열대 또는 아열대 지역의 차가운 심해에서 발견된다. 학명 기간투라(Gigantura)는 그리스 신화 속의 거인족인 기간테스(Gigantes)에서 유래했다. 접미사 "우라"(oura)는 "꼬리"(tail)를 의미한다.
