Summize Ltd (trading as Summize) is a UK-based software as a service (SaaS) legal technology company specializing in AI-powered contract lifecycle management (CLM) software.
Company history
[edit]Founded in Manchester, England in 2018 by Tom Dunlop and David Smith, Summize is headquartered in Manchester with additional operations in Boston, Massachusetts and San Diego, California[1]. The company positions itself as "creating contract clarity for the whole company" via an intuitive CLM platform that integrates with everyday business tools. Summize initially offered a lightweight contract summary platform, and over the years expanded its product, offering an end-to-end contract lifecycle management solution, integrating deeper AI capabilities.
In 2020, it received an investment from Maven Capital Partners as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund[2]. Early in its evolution, the company reported a 250% quarterly revenue uplift during one period[3]. In 2022, the company secured a £5 million Series A investment led by YFM Equity Partners and Maven Capital Partners, signaling a major step in funding its global expansion and product development. At that time, Summize announced it had over 100 businesses worldwide on its platform[4].
By October 2023, Summize announced the opening of a US-based office in Boston, Massachusetts and the creation of a US subsidiary, summarizing this as a response to North American demand[5]. In November 2023, the company bolstered its senior leadership by appointing Rachel Cunliffe as Chief Financial Officer, emphasizing that this appointment would support the next phase of growth[6].
In August 2024, the company announced 101% net ARR growth, 45% year-on-year increase in new customers and that 40% of its ARR came from North America[7], marking significant global expansion. In 2025, it reported its fifth consecutive year of 100% ARR growth and a 215% increase in US ARR, along with a headcount growth of 49%[8].
In November 2025, Summize announced another expansion, opening an office in San Diego, California[1].
Product and features
[edit]Summize's core offering is contract lifecycle management software that supports four primary stages: request, review, repository and analytics.
- Request: Business teams can self-serve contracts within familiar tools via pre-approved templates and workflows.
- Review: AI-assisted contract review, redlining and drafting (especially via a native Microsoft Word add-in).
- Repository: Centralized storage and search of contracts to support audit lifecycle visibility and cross-functional access.
- Analytics: AI-powered insights, identifying risks, obligations, trends and opportunities from contract data.
A significant component of the technology is Summize Intelligent Agents (SIA), released in April 2025, which applies a multi-agent framework under the hood to mimic human lawyer workflows[9]. The product emphasizes integrations with widely used platforms such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Gmail, Slack, Salesforce and Jira.
Clients and sectors
[edit]Summize serves a diverse client base across multiple industries. Customers include SeatGeek, Matillion, Huel, Avaloq, Revolut and the Miami Heat[9]. In its July 2025 results announcement, the company also cited clients such as Regnology, AMC Networks, SHL Medical, Clearscore, Sigma and Checkatrade, along with eight new US professional sports teams across the NFL, NBA and MLS[8].
Awards and recognition
[edit]Summize has received several industry recognitions for its technology and growth within the legal sector. The company has appeared in rankings such as the Sifted 250[10] and the Deloitte Fast 50[11], and has been acknowledged at the Northern Tech Awards[12] for innovation, and recognition from the SaaS Awards for its legal technology offering.[13]
