ConfirmRollback on recent changes

[edit]

Hi! I installed ConfirmRollback.js via mw.loader.load in my ptwiki common.js. I added CSS with display: none to hide the rollback links, and it worked: on RecentChanges the links disappeared and then reappeared once the script had fully loaded, and clicking a link showed the confirmation popup as I configured.

However, as soon as I enabled the Live updates feature and the new edits came in, all rollback links disappeared and never came back. I’m assuming this is because the script’s styles would need to be re-applied as the page updates, so the display: none CSS ends up taking over.

Looking through your talk archives, I couldn’t find anyone with this exact issue. Is this the expected behaviour on pages with live updates, or am I missing something obvious?

@Little Sunshine: Thanks for the report, and you aren't missing anything obvious. The live updates feature didn't exist when the script was written, so it isn't currently supported by ConfirmRollback. You are correct in your diagnosis - the script currently runs once on page load, but the live updates feature gets new edits dynamically without reloading the entire page. This means that if ConfirmRollback is active, the links will be re-added when the page is first loaded, but not for subsequent updates. I've added this as a known issue to the docs for now, and I've started taking a stab at fixing it, but there are still some bugs left in the implementation. I'll try to fix those when I have the time. Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 16:15, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Mr. Stradivarius! Since my last message, I've added support for live updates on ptwiki; the relevant changes are in these diffs: see ptwiki diffs (alongside translation edits). It's been working reliably for me, and my latest change only handles cases where the hook fires twice. Feel free to use/adapt the patch if you'd like! @Little Sunshine: Thanks for the info. I've now fixed the script to work with live updates. It should also work with screen readers, although I haven't tested that part. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 16:02, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Nihonjoe: I couldn't see the image as it has been deleted, but I am guessing it is probably this one? It seems like a reasonable fair use case to me. Consider taking this to deletion review. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 14:24, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do that, but you're an admin, so you can see deleted images. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:16, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Nihonjoe: Oh ok, you're right - before I just looked at the deleted page revisions, but I see there's a separate section for deleted file revisions, and I could see the deleted image from that. And I see it is the same image as on the Amazon page I linked, so it still seems like a reasonable fair use case to me. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 03:50, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

This page is pending changes protected since 2014. I believe that 11 years of pending changes were more than enough to discourage the minimal disruptive activity on the page. Also the page doesn't receive a large number of edits. Is it possible for PCP to be removed? MrCleanAd (talk) 16:39, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MrCleanAd: Sounds reasonable, and I don't see much recent disruption in the page history, so I went ahead and removed pending changes protection. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 14:29, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
