How Do I Create A Custom Page For Free? --CustomCreatorOVi (talk) 15:27, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) TheSandDoctor hasn't edited for a few days. What do you mean by a custom page? If you're talking about an article, WP:FIRST is a useful start. Girth Summit (blether) 15:49, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news

  • Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
  • Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). Question from Curejm (02:34, 9 December 2025)

[edit]

can you please help me create a wiki page? --Curejm (talk) 02:34, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Curejm: Are you referring to Draft:Cure JM Foundation? If so, would recommend following the advice left by QEnigma. Please also identify a new username that you would like to use for your account. Based on that draft, your current username is not permissible under our username policy. I can help you fix that, though! I just need you to reply here with your choice of a new username (one with no results if you search here) and I can fix that for you. The username needs to represent you as an individual person (though pseudonyms are allowed/encouraged); it can't be a username that implies shared use. For example, "Mark at Curejm" would be an example of an acceptable username, as would FacebookFanatic87, etc.

Hi

[edit]

Wikipedia assigned you to be my mentor. I've been running into problems. I've made some pretty poor editorial judgements lately that I thought were completely fine at the time. I don't know. I think I'm either done as an editor or I'm about to become the greatest editor this site has ever seen. Are you still available to help me? I got extremely arrogant and I'm realizing I'm just a really sloppy editor and I got alot to learn. Lofi Gurl (talk) 15:50, 25 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Lofi Gurl: Apologies for the delay in responding. I am glad to see that you have acknowledge mistakes and express a willingness to learn. I have definitely accidentally stumbled into a few bees nests myself, particularly when starting out. Article creation is probably one of the hardest things on Wikipedia, especially when it comes to getting a handle on this vague concept of "notability"—and none of us always make the right call, either, but taking on feedback is how you grow and learn. I would strongly recommend that, for now, you focus on improving existing articles. There is a lot to learn about Wikipedia, and even I am still discovering things periodically as an admin for ~7(!) years now and an editor for (in a few days) 8. On that vein, I am glad to see that your more recent edits to pages like Modern Baseball and Unwritten Law have incorporated the feedback given.
What I would say for actionable next steps to get you started is two-fold:
  1. Try to keep citations you add relatively close to the content they are supporting. This isn't an exact science, as others have alluded to, but in general if you are quoting something? You want to have your citation almost always immediately following it.
  2. When you add material, be sure that it is sourced, either to new citations you add or via existing ones on the page (that can be reused). In Unwritten Law you referenced Consequence but the material wasn't supported by a citation, so I tagged it as needing a reference. In Modern Baseball you had the Consequence reference following the Pitchfork mention but also didn't add a citation for Pitchfork to support the direct quote. I moved the Consequence citation closer to the mention of Consequence and tagged the Pitchfork quote as needing a citation.
We just need to be really careful about citing what we are adding and ideally putting the citations in the right spot. I hope that this helps for starters. If you have any questions on this or other matters/hurdles you come across, feel free to reach out. I am always happy to help if I can. TheSandDoctor Talk 09:35, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol January–February 2026 Backlog drive

[edit]
January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

  • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
  • The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
  • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
  • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
  • Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
  • Interested in participating? Sign up here.

Happy New Year!
Hello TheSandDoctor:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.

Question from FPS215 (10:14, 3 January 2026)

[edit]

Hello. How do I create a citation? Also, where can I get great sources for my edits? Also, how can I add hyperlinks? Thanks! --FPS215 (talk) 10:14, 3 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@FPS215: Please see this guide to referencing. When it comes to hyperlinks, that depends on if you mean internal links to another article (called wikilinks) or external links (e.g. to Google or another external website). In the case of wikilinks, see Help:Wikilink. If you are referring to external links, it is best to read WP:EXTLINKS. In short (for external links), very rarely is it appropriate to have external links in the body of an article. I hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know. Question from Wii Pedia Woo (08:11, 4 January 2026)

[edit]

How do I create a Wikipedia page? --Wii Pedia Woo (talk) 08:11, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wii Pedia Woo! I wouldn't start editing Wikipedia by jumping straight into creating a new article or draft. There are a lot of ins and outs of the site and its guidelines/policies around notability and sourcing etc and you're better off learning those first by working on improving existing articles. What sort of topic areas are you most interested in? TheSandDoctor Talk 18:39, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
