Benedict Edward Dempsey (Ben Dempsey) is a British politician and environmentalist who was selected in September 2025 to be the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of Sussex, a newly created post which will be decided by an election in May 2026[1],[2] as part of the 2026 local elections[3]. Dempsey stood as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency of East Grinstead and Uckfield in the 2024 General Election, and served as the Liberal Democrat councillor for Hassocks on the Mid Sussex District Council from 2019-23.[4][5][6]
