Carmon Colangelo is an American artist, printmaker, and educator. He is currently the Ralph J. Nagel Dean of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, a role he has held since 2006. Colangelo is known for his innovative printmaking techniques, contributions to art education, and leadership in the visual arts community.

Early Life and Education

Colangelo earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Lithography from the University of Windsor, Canada, in 1981. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Louisiana State University, furthering his expertise in printmaking and contemporary art practices. Early in his career, he focused on combining traditional printmaking techniques with contemporary approaches.

Career

Colangelo has served as a professor and academic leader in the field of visual arts. In 2006, he became the Ralph J. Nagel Dean of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, overseeing the Colleges of Art and Architecture, Island Press, and the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. Under his leadership, the school has expanded its programs and increased its visibility in contemporary art education.

His work as a printmaker has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Colangelo is recognized for integrating traditional printmaking methods with innovative processes and mentoring emerging artists.
