Databento is an American financial technology company that offers market data APIs and financial data services. Its platform enables users to access real-time and historical data from major exchanges, including NASDAQ, NYSE, and CME, among others.[1][2][3]

History

[edit]

Databento was founded in February 2019 by Christina Qi in Salt Lake City, Utah.[4] Qi previously was a cofounder of Domeyard LP, a quantitative hedge fund that traded up to $7.1 billion in daily volume.[5] Prior to founding Domeyard, Qi worked at UBS and Goldman Sachs.[6]

The company launched publicly in 2023 with services for equities and options data.[7]

In October 2024, the company raised an additional $10 million in Series A funding, bringing its total Series A round to $30 million. The funding round included participation from Belvedere Trading, Clear Street, and Lightscape Partners.[8]

Product

[edit]

Databento operates as a licensed data distributor for several major trading venues and exchanges.[1][2] The company offers APIs for accessing real-time and historical market data with various schema types that integrate with research and analytics tools.[9] Their market data platform serves a range of institutional users, including banks, proprietary trading firms, hedge funds, asset managers, and universities.[10]

The company hosts servers in colocation facilities with exchange servers and offers both subscription-based licensing and usage-based pricing models.[10]

Leadership

[edit]

Christina Qi serves as Chief Executive Officer.[11] She graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Management Science and serves on the MIT Corporation Development Committee.[5] Qi was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in finance in 2018.[12]

Recognition

[edit]

In 2022, Databento was named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum.[13] The Technology Pioneers program recognizes companies using new technologies to address global challenges.[14]
