inthemix (styled as inthemix.com.au) was an Australian online publication focused on electronic dance music, club culture, and related news, reviews and photography. Established in 1999, it became one of the most influential online hubs for the Australian dance music community during the 2000s and 2010s.[1][2]
History
[edit]inthemix was launched in 1999 by Andre Lackmann and Libby Clark, initially as a place to share photos from raves and document club culture.[2] Neil Ackland later joined as a co-founder and became CEO of the associated media company, Sound Alliance.[2]
Throughout the 2000s, the site grew to become a central hub for dance music enthusiasts, with editorial coverage, forums, and extensive event photography.[2] Its writers included Matt Callender, Tim Hardaker, Angus Paterson, Jack Tregoning and Katie Cunningham.[2]
inthemix was published under Sound Alliance, which later rebranded as Junkee Media.[3]
Closure
[edit]On 1 November 2018, inthemix announced that it would cease operating as a stand-alone brand and be folded into Music Junkee, a rebranded publication covering broader music culture.[4][5]
