NeuralGarage is a Bangalore-based generative artificial intelligence company founded in 2021. It develops AI technologies that transform audiovisual content by automatically synchronizing dubbed audio with the lip and facial movements of actors in videos.[1][2]

Its flagship product, VisualDub, uses neural network–based generative AI models to create high-quality lip synchronization across multiple languages, reducing audiovisual mismatch and improving the naturalness of localized video content.[3][4] NeuralGarage works with film studios and brands to enhance post-production workflows and expand global video accessibility.[5]

History

[edit]

NeuralGarage was founded on 27 July 2021 in Bangalore, India, by Mandar Natekar, Subhabrata Debnath, Anjan Banerjee, and Subhashish Saha.[6] The company’s name reflects its technological foundation: “Neural” refers to neural networks central to AI technologies, while “Garage” acknowledges the startup origins of major technology firms like Google, Apple, and Microsoft.[7]

The company’s name combines “Neural,” referencing neural networks central to AI, and “Garage,” inspired by the startup origins of major technology companies like Google and Apple.[8]

In May 2023, NeuralGarage commercially launched VisualDub after a year of research and proprietary technology development.[9] The idea was conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, when one of the founders noticed a mismatch between dubbed audio and lip movements while watching an English-dubbed Korean film.[10]

Funding

[edit]

In 2022, NeuralGarage raised US$1.45 million in a seed funding round led by Exfinity Venture Partners, with participation from Amit Patni’s family office and other strategic investors.[11] The funds were used for technology development and market expansion.[12]

Partnerships

[edit]

In July 2024, NeuralGarage partnered with UFO Moviez, India’s largest digital cinema distribution network.[13] The collaboration aimed to provide visual dubbing technology for film studios and distributors during post-production, facilitating localized theatrical releases across India and abroad.[14]

Milestones and recognition

[edit]

In 2024, NeuralGarage was selected for Inc42’s flagship "30 Startups to Watch" list. The annual series highlights high-potential Indian startups identified by the Inc42 editorial team as companies to watch in the coming years.[15] It was also recognized in NASSCOM’s Emerge 50 Awards as one of India’s top emerging technology companies.[16]

In 2024, the startup was selected for the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First program[17] and the AWS Global Generative AI Accelerator, receiving $1 million in AWS credits.[18] NeuralGarage also won L’Oréal’s Big Bang Beauty Tech Innovation Program for the SAPMENA region.[19]

In September 2024, it was selected for Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt.[20] In March 2025, NeuralGarage won the "Entertainment, Media, Sports & Content" category at the SXSW Pitch Competition in Austin, Texas, becoming the first Indian startup to receive the award in that category.[21]
