Nto Udo Enwan[1] is a village located within the Ito III zone of the Ito Clan in Ika Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It is one of several communities that form part of the wider Ika ethnic and administrative region.

Geography

Nto Udo Enwan is situated among neighboring villages, sharing boundaries with:

  • Ikot Eseden to the west
  • Nto Mbadum to the east
  • Ikot Udom to the south
  • Nto Urua to the north

The village is intersected by two major roads that converge at a central roundabout locally referred to as Abod-Ujo (also known as Ujo-iso-Agwo).

  • One route connects Etim Ekpo (via Usung Ikot Udom) to Ukwa East (via Usung Nto Mbadum)
  • Another links Urua Inyang (via Usung Efagk Ukum) to Ikot Ese (via Usung Urua Mkpohoeto)

Economy

The local economy is primarily sustained through agriculture, trade, civil service, and artisanal work. Farmlands in the area, such as Aweleng, Usung Urua-Ekpo, Esua-Ition, Ikot Alōlō, Usung-Itiat, and Anwa-Ekpat, are used for the cultivation of various crops and contribute to food supply and commerce within the local government area.

The village hosts a portion of the Urua Mkpohoeto market, considered one of the most active trading centers in Ika LGA and Akwa Ibom State.

Education

Nto Udo Enwan is home to key educational institutions, including:

  • St. Francis Primary School, established in 1945[2]
  • Christian Standard Science Academy [3] serving as the primary institution for post-primary education in the village

The village is also renowned for its traditional masquerade festival known as Akakum [4](also called Afum),[5] performed annually during the Christmas season and on important occasions such as the passing of esteemed community members.
