History

[edit]

Simplilearn was founded in 2010 by Indian entrepreneur Krishna Kumar, a student of the National Institute of Technology, Suratkal. The company initially started as a technology blog and later became a training website for project management-related topics.[2][3]

In September 2013, Simplilearn.com raised $10 million in Series B funding from Helion Venture Partners and Kalaari Capital to diversify and expand its course.[4][5][6] In April 2015, Simplilearn.com raised US$15 million in a Series C round led by Mayfield, with participation from existing investors Kalaari Capital and Helion Ventures.[7][8]

In September 2016, Simplilearn.com secured US$6 million in venture debt from InnoVen Capital India to support growth, alongside Capillary Technologies.[9][10][11] In January 2017, it raised $40 million in a Series D round to support acquisitions and expansion.[12][13]

Educational Partnerships

[edit]

In June 2019, the company partnered with IBM to launch courses in artificial intelligence and data science.[14][15] In November of the same year, the company partnered with Purdue University to offer programs in artificial intelligence and machine learning.[16] In July 2020, the company partnered with the University of Massachusetts Amherst to expand online education offerings through its "University Without Walls" program.[17][18] In 2022, raised $45 million in a new funding round led by GSV Ventures.[19][20]

In November 2022, Simplilearn acquired U.S.-based Fullstack Academy, a bootcamp education company, to expand its presence in North America.[21] In October 2024, it moved its U.S. headquarters from San Francisco to Plano, Texas.[22][23] In June 2025, Simplilearn.com appointed Jitendra Kumar as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).[24]
