Template:Submit an edit request is permanently protected from editing because it is a heavily used or highly visible template. Substantial changes should first be proposed and discussed here on this page. If the proposal is uncontroversial or has been discussed and is supported by consensus, editors may use {{edit protected}} to notify an administrator to make the requested edit. Usually, any contributor may edit the template's documentation to add usage notes or categories.

Any contributor may edit the template's sandbox. Functionality of the template can be checked using test cases.

This version is more clear (and possibly easier to understand for non-native English speakers), and doesn't seem to present any downsides. FaviFake (talk) 16:11, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit template-protected}} template. I disagree that the proposed version is clearer. It may be possible to improve the wording, but I got lost in ambiguity at "change below this line". – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:11, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Establishing consensus for rephrasing

I believe this version, different from the above, is clearer to new users and in general. Additionally, it's shorter and to the point. Thoughts?

That's an improvement. I have modified the preload page based on your suggestion to Below this line, write your suggested changes UNAMBIGUOUSLY, in the format "Change X to Y", so that editors who may be unfamiliar with this page know exactly what to add or remove. Blank requests will be declined. If other editors do not like it or find it wanting in some way, I'm sure we'll hear about it here. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:08, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
