This was a riot. Not just a “general strike” or “mostly peaceful protest.”
[edit]Note above. This was a riot. I know people personally who live there. Please call this what it was. 72.211.181.161 (talk) 02:24, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- WP:OPINION. Give valid WP:RELY to your claims. Ukrain4Pal (talk) 04:52, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- The article already includes the comments from the government which you are parroting here. No need to add anything else. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 09:38, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
Should we incorporate the incoming strike into the article? And the protests we're seeing?
[edit]Another general strike is coming on 26 September. When it occurs, since the title is "September 2025 Italian general strike for Gaza", I propose also incorporating the events of the new general strike within this article, separating the article into sections regarding the first and second strike (since they both took place in September for very similar reasons and by the same organizers). Additionally, on 24 September, significant protests took place, despite there not being a strike. Can this be all categorized in one big "season of unrest?" VitoxxMass (talk) 15:27, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- Agree, it is worth noting that the unrest did not stop on that day. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 21:57, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
Proposed additional photos from the strike/riots of Milan

Add infos on the riots in Milan
[edit]I propose adding a section to document the clashes that occurred in Milan on 22 September during the nationwide general strike. The update would provide a factual account of the events near Milano Centrale railway station, including the timeline of the confrontation, police actions, and reported arrests, based on verified sources. This is extracted from the report i made for Chronocol Media, feel fro to adjust it for the Wikipedia Format. I see that a lot of infos on the riots are mainly propaganda from big media. No Shops Windows (“Vetrine” in italian) were broken, but only the glass of the station doors.
On September 22, during the general strike, between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m., the march—reported by organizers to number over 80,000 people—reached Piazza Duca d’Aosta in front of Milan’s Centrale railway station, where police were already deployed and access points were blocked.
Determined to replicate the logistics blockades seen in other Italian cities, protesters attempted to enter through the subway and, exploiting an open passage, managed to reach the station’s outer hall, opening the gates and pushing up to the inner doors.
A prolonged phase of clashes followed: for more than an hour and a half the crowd resisted charges, tear gas, and baton strikes, responding with smoke flares, makeshift barricades of barriers, bins and fire hydrants, and repeatedly advancing despite police pressure.
Only after repeated charges did police push the demonstrators out of the square, splitting them into three groups: two smaller ones dispersed along Via Vitruvio and Via Luigi Galvani, while the main march continued along Via Vittor Pisani to Piazza Repubblica, where a temporary traffic blockade was organized. During this phase an ambulance was allowed to pass with the protesters’ consent.
Police continued firing tear gas, in several cases at head height and on steep trajectories; one canister entered an apartment, causing a small fire that required intervention by the Fire Brigade, who were also let through the blockade without incident.
After an initial police advance, protesters tried to return toward the station, forcing a gradual police retreat until, with charges exhausted and tear gas launches becoming sporadic, tensions eased. The crowd sat down to continue the protest, officers lowered their shields, and the sit-in proceeded peacefully until evening.
Authorities reported a total of 11 arrests, including two minors, with solidarity mobilizations expected in the coming days, still to be defined.

Should we add today's protests and strikes info?
[edit]Most importantly, should it be in the "Aftermath" section or its own section? VitoxxMass (talk) 13:51, 26 September 2025 (UTC)

Need to add more information about organizers, such as SI Cobas, which also called a general strike on October the 3rd, and the Palestinian organizations in Italy: API (Associazione Palestinesi in Italia), GPI (Giovani Palestinesi d'Italia), MSP (Movimento Studenti Palestinesi), UDAP (Unione Democratica Arabo-Palestinese), which issued a statement to call on the Trade Unions for the strike on October the 3rd and a big national rally in Rome on October the 4th. Parnacroso99 (talk) 12:43, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Nubzor [T][C] 13:54, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Not done: I don't think it's necessary to add that template as there are only 1-2 editors actively editing the article right now. As for including the number of participants, please provide the exact text that should be added to the article. Day Creature (talk) 17:48, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Potere al Popolo should be added to the strike organizers. It was the main political party organizing the strike campaign alongside USB. 2.196.145.255 (talk) 00:00, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- Could you provide any source stating that clearly? ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 00:14, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
A couple of organizers should be added: the Network of Communists (the network USB belongs to), and the Front of Communist Youth (see here). — Preceding unsigned comment added by GemistoPletone (talk • contribs) 13:09, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Change of title?
[edit]This feels like a part of a larger phenomenon not necessarily tied to the strikes, which whilst important, do not feel like the protagonist of the phenomenon anymore. VitoxxMass (talk) 09:43, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- Kind of agree, it’s the reason why I added “protests” to the title a while ago, even though the strikes have still been central to the movement in my opinion. What’s your proposed alternative? ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 09:50, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- I would say to use the term "Italian Intifada". It's called as such by various sources and also it's considered part of the wider "Student Intifada" movement, just an evolution of it.
- Sources: https://www.lifegate.it/intifada-studentesca-palestina-bologna-milano, https://www.arabnews.com/node/2617176, https://www.palestinechronicle.com/an-italian-intifada-will-gaza-reshape-italian-politics/, https://napolimonitor.it/linizio-di-una-cosa-cronache-e-spunti-dai-giorni-del-blocchiamo-tutto/
- Its also worth noting that this term was first used in 2024 in Italy, but I don't know if that should be considered the same as this one. Up to you to decide. Maybe could fit in a background section. VitoxxMass (talk) 14:58, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hm, it sure is an evocative name, but we should go by the most widely used terminology and “intifada” doesn’t seem to be primary at all. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 16:20, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
