The term idea in the first sentence is unfortunate. The notion of expressive power is quite a bit more mathematically tangible than the term idea suggests. Rp (talk) 23:23, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Concepts, not ideas

[edit]

I think the word "idea" is too informal to be used here. "Concept" on the other hand is a standard term when discussing the semantics of programming languages, so I propose to replace "idea" with "concept" throughout. Rp (talk) 16:31, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

'For example..'

[edit]

Could I perhaps ask those responsible for this article to give an estimate of the percentage of its readers that they expect to be familiar with Web Ontology Language? And following on from this, what percentage of that subset of readers would they then expect not to already be familiar with the concept of 'expressive power', as described in this article? As 'examples' go, one that can only be understood by a small subset of potential readers - most of whom won't need 'examples' as they already understand the topic - is singularly useless. Article ledes are supposed to summarise the content in the body, but frankly, I can't see the utility of this 'example' anywhere. I realise this is a complex technical subject, but baffling those without prior knowledge wishing to learn something about it (i.e. the intended readership of an encyclopaedia) by babbling on about the difference between versions of things they know nothing of isn't the way to do it.
