Athletics at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's team cross country
[edit]I previously removed the linking at Athletics at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's team cross country to all articles we do not currently have since it had been determined that competitors at the Olympic games are not default notable, so there is no reason to supposed we would automatically create these articles on people who are not clearly notable. An editor came along and reverted these edits with the explanation "keep links red". I really do not think we should have such links, it gives the false impression that Olympic competitors are default notable, and lots of redlinks in some cases lead to false links. I do not want to get in an edit war, so I am just letting you know. I do not think this massive amount of red links on people we are unlikely to ever have articles on is useful.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:20, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- While I don't disagree with your viewpoint, I would address your concerns specifically with that editor. Let'srun (talk) 23:58, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- That editor is Habst. He and Beanie regularly go around and return to being present redlinks. Beanie claims that since "most olympians are notable" having a redlink is acceptable. These two editors are trying to avoid the implications of the consensus that Olympic competitors are notable and continue to make Wikipedia give the impression they are notable by making sure that there are links to the names of every olympic competitor. Since they do it in tandem one editor has no change to stop them, and they tend not to listen to other people.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:40, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Johnpacklambert, I just saw this. I never edited that article except for a minor naming change, so I'm not sure what you are referring to. I promise I don't believe in the motivations ascribed to me here. I respect your contributions and would appreciate if you could extend the same good faith to me and other editors. --Habst (talk) 19:04, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

Why do people keep saying that participation in the olympics satisfies notability
[edit]People keep saying things like "participation in the 2012 olympics satisfies the sports notability guidelines". This is 100% false. It was decided in 2021 that the only olympians who satisfy notability guidelines for that alone were medal winners, not all participants. In 2022 we scrapped all participation inclusion guidelines. So why 4 years later are people still repeating the false claim that olympic participation makes someone notable?John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:44, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- We even get editors arguing to keep per meeting NOLY for subjects that don't even meet NOLY! JoelleJay (talk) 23:18, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
I've added {{PROD2}} as creator. I can't remember the details of the problem, but it involved a link to DAB page José Varela which I could see no other way of resolving`- the combination of s template and Wikidata was too much for me. Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 15:29, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- The problem didn't reappear on deletion. Whew. Narky Blert (talk) 04:10, 14 August 2025 (UTC)

This stub has three sources and multiple links. I deprodded it. Questions about WP:SIGCOV are best discussed at WP:AfD. Bearian (talk) 03:02, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Erkki Johansson and SPORTSCRIT
[edit]I really don't think this should be closed as keep (particularly by a non-admin) while this is only cited to a database. The RFC on NSPORT was clear that we should delete sports bio pages that are only built from databases. That remains true even if sources are found. See WP:SPORTSCRIT the last bullet point and the RFC linked on the NSPORT page.4meter4 (talk) 23:22, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- Feel free to open a DRV if you think the close is inappropriate. While I concur with what you are saying, it was clear the consensus was to keep this article. Let'srun (talk) 23:25, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
