Question from OwlyLady (14:24, 4 June 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I tried some basic copy editing for a first attempt. I came across this article where the book titles were in bold and there was inconsistent formatting. I wondered if it was okay to change to italics, or if there's a reason for things being in bold with different types of parenthesis? --OwlyLady (talk) 14:24, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @OwlyLady, text formatting on Wikipedia is specified in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Text formatting guideline. On Wikipedia, the use of boldface is highly restricted by guidelines; the only common use of boldface is for the first appearance of the article title in the lead section. Italics are the preferred markup for emphasis (and only if necessary), titles of major works of art (books, films, etc.) and some other uses specified in the MOS:ITALICS section of the aforementioned guideline. In this case it's probably appropriate to change the boldface to italics or remove formatting entirely if not required by guidelines. Liu1126 (talk) 15:22, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Serviceeternity (22:26, 8 June 2025)

[edit]

Hi Liu, Hope you're well.

I wanted to reach out regarding the page Draft:Sadakat Aman Khan, which appears to have been deleted based on consensus and is now extended confirmed protected.

I was in the process of drafting an article on him to contribute to the representation of Indian Classical Music on Wikipedia, but I’m currently unable to even create a draft in the Draft namespace due to the protection level.

I would appreciate it if the page could be undeleted or the protection adjusted to allow me to work on a draft. My goal is to contribute constructively and in line with Wikipedia's standards.

Thank you for your time and consideration. --Serviceeternity (talk) 22:26, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Serviceeternity, unfortunately, as I'm not an administrator, I'm unable to undelete or unprotect the page for you. I see you've also contacted Liz, who is an admin, about the issue, and I would recommend waiting for their response. Otherwise, you can contact El C, the admin who protected the page. If you receive no reply, you can request for unprotection at WP:RFUP. Technically speaking, you could draft the article in your userspace, but I'm unfamiliar with the circumstances of the deletion (I can't even view the deleted versions of the page) and this could be seen as an attempt to game WP:G4, so I would advise against doing so unless Liz, El C, or another admin gives you the go ahead. Feel free to contact me again if you run into other problems in the process. Liu1126 (talk) 22:57, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Fad8229 (19:33, 16 June 2025)

[edit]

What should a good article look like, I'm creating a draft for Nathan Sage. --Fad8229 (talk) 19:33, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Fad8229, creating a good article is an incredibly vast issue that I can't really fully address here, but Wikipedia:Writing better articles is a good start. The various Wikipedia:Content assessment criteria are also an indication of what you should work towards. As for your draft, I would recommend the same advice you received over at the Teahouse. Hello, I can upload my poem in wikipedia's? --Chintangiri123 (talk) 04:46, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Chintangiri123, unless your poem is somehow notable in its own right, please do not use Wikipedia to store or share personal works. Wikipedia is not a blog or web hosting service. Liu1126 (talk) 13:29, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
