[edit]

Why can't i contribute a new article to wikipedia --Roman Tymchenko (talk) 08:07, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from PHCaptain (14:46, 5 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi Matrix, I just submitted my first stub for AfC. It's a stub-level article for AfC. How can I navigate back to the submitted article to print a preview and add topic tags? Thank you. PHCaptain --PHCaptain (talk) 14:46, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, how do I report my relationship to the biographical subject? Thank you. PHCaptain (talk) 14:55, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PHCaptain: Hi, to navigate back please go to User:PHCaptain/sandbox. If you have a conflict of interest (i.e. a relationship with the subject) please let me know here, and I'll add it to the draft for you. Also, if you are being paid please also let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 17:28, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Matrix: No, I am not being paid. The subject is my spouse. As a medical writer, myself, I have done what I can to create a very short, accurate, and well-cited biography with objectivity that is free of bias or puffery. If your greater experience, which I acknowledge, tells otherwise I will gladly correct the deficiencies and add more references where you deem appropriate. This is my first attempted contribution to Wikipedia and I am very eager to improve my ability in this vein. PHCaptain (talk) 18:06, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PHCaptain: no worries, I have added the COI notice to the page. In my opinion, your page lacks reliable sources that show the subject is notable for inclusion (either per this general guideline or this academic-specific guideline). You need more reliable sources generally as well - press releases like [1] [2] aren't reliable enough If you have any further questions please lmk :) —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:34, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Matrix, thanks for your recent POV edit on the article M. K. Stalin.

Could you please elaborate on your comment here regarding what kind of scandals which you are looking forward to includ in the BLP. I'm happy to add the scandals on the Talk page of the article for discussion before the edit. Thank you E.Saravanan (talk) 07:20, 7 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from G-Man380 (09:11, 14 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello Can i link my YouTube channel and Wikipedia --G-Man380 (talk) 09:11, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@G-Man380: If you mean you would like to include videos from your channel on Wikipedia topics, please read WP:YOUTUBE on the restrictions and how to do this.
If you would like to create an article on Wikipedia, your YouTube channel must be notable. This is unlikely; even massive channels like Jack Sucks At Life aren't notable. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 13:31, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please self-revert. Your edit is causing bogus file option lint errors across the template's transclusions. — Tenshi! (Talk page) 19:37, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Tenshi Hinanawi: fixed, turns out I didn't see the noviewer class was already applied, thanks for pointing it out. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 19:40, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that you have the LintHint script installed. It should put a yellow "lintHint" button at the top of each page. I recommend clicking that button on the /sandbox and /testcases page before copying sandbox code to a live template. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:46, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Marco Kotze Araujo (07:02, 18 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello Matrix! I was wondering, how does one qualify to edit on pages related to Russia-Ukraine. --Marco Kotze Araujo (talk) 07:02, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Marco Kotze Araujo! Only extended-confirmed (EC) editors can edit pages related to the Russo-Ukrainian War. This means the account needs to be at least 30 days old and have at least 500 edits. Non-EC editors can recommend changes on article talk pages. Please see the following page for more information: Wikipedia:General sanctions/Russo-Ukrainian War. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:36, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined speedy deletion: Draft:Gurjar/Gujjar

[edit]

Hi there! I wanted to let you know I've declined your G12 speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Gurjar/Gujjar because the copyrighted material could be adequately pruned from the article. If you think this decline was in error, please let me know. Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:33, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Significa liberdade: fair enough. It's also worth noting that due to GSCASTE the editor in question isn't actually allowed to edit the draft, so you might still want to delete as a CTOP action. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 17:40, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your closing of "Chetsford TBANnned"

[edit]

I do not think "this" close is inline with the emerging consensus, with only 1 support for Chetsford to be TBANnned, I'd appreciate if you'd consider undoing your closure. Butterscotch Beluga (talk) 23:59, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Butterscotch Beluga: ? I closed is as SNOW, i.e. as unsuccesful. Sorry if that wasn't clear. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 15:06, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, I now realize I read "Chetsford is indefinitely topic-banned from UFOs/UAPs and allegations of extraterrestrial contact with Earth, broadly construed, explicitly including people said to have experience or expertise with these." as your closing rather then the initial proposal.
Thank you for the reply & again, apologies for my misreading of the close. Butterscotch Beluga (talk) 15:18, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No worries; I totally see how that would happen now. I've made it a bit clearer. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 15:21, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AlBistue (22:12, 19 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to make a contribution, maybe as a draft (because she is my wife), to add her name as an artist in tango music in Argentina. Her name is Victoria Di Raimondo. How can I suggest her to be added in Wikipedia? --AlBistue (talk) 22:12, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@AlBistue: Welcome to Wikipedia! To make a page, please read Help:Your first article. As you are writing an article about your wife, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. In particular, your wife must be notable, either by the general guideline or the specific one for musicians (these guidelines are quite strict).

Question from BertieBoy2012 (01:06, 24 September 2025)

[edit]

Sometimes I had been offered the option to review my edits, and sometimes not. Sometimes there was a checkbox to indicate whether the edit was minor, but mostly not. All but two of my edits were minor and were attempted fixes of notes formatting in the second of my two major edits. I had a lot of difficulty with fixing it - or attempting to, anyway - because of the mismatch between the visual editor (which I used only for checking output before publishing) did not correctly present the way the notes field format would publish. --BertieBoy2012 (talk) 01:06, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@BertieBoy2012: sorry to hear about your concerns. In my experience, sometimes the visual editor is inaccurate - we can't do anything about this. When you use the source editor, there's a preview box on the right which may be more helpful. I can also see you made a few mobile edits, and the interface is quite difficult to use in mobile. If you have further questions feel free to let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 16:20, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Kamiri Sammy (talk) 08:52, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't follow the TFD at {{Culture of Italy}} et al., but something seems to have gone sideways at Italian comics. I fixed the navbox for you, but I don't see a link to Italian comics in the replacement, {{Italy topics}}. Is this still a work in progress of some kind? It appears that the result of the TFD was "merge", but if the comics article was missed in the merge, were other links missed as well? This report shows a lot of inconsistency. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:44, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonesey95: The Italian comics article was a manual edit by me and I clearly just didn't pay enough attention, my bad. As the discussion was "merge", I simply just converted existing culture templates to the topics ones, I didn't see if they were actually on the topics navboxes, since that's not my decision to make - I was just following consensus at the TfD. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 17:14, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Merge" usually means that the resulting template would have all of the features and links of the resulting template. That usually requires editing of the target template. If the template was to simply be redirected to the target, the TFD outcome would have been "Redirect". – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:44, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: The other thing I forgot to mention is Template:Editnotices/Page/Template:Italy topics, apparently it's too long. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 17:50, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that seems to contradict WP:BIDIRECTIONAL, as did edits like this one that made the report of transclusions without links longer. I don't have an answer for you. It looks like the TFD did not analyze the differences between all of the pairs of templates, instead looking at only the pair for Albania. The WP:TRAINWRECK that Moxy predicted appears to have come to pass. I didn't look at any of the other "merged" (really redirected, apparently) sidebar templates, but I suspect that some of them suffered a similar fate. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:53, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: WP:BIDIRECTIONAL was already being violated with the culture templates, and I wasn't really aware of the policy BIDIRECTIONAL until you just stated it now. The other thing is individually reviewing every transclusion to check whether Template:Italy topics applies or if a more specific template should be used is a time consuming process (which I can't really be asked to do), and a simple find and replace using some clever JWB rules is a lot easier. (P.S. I'm not online tomorrow and maybe day after cos of Golu) —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 20:10, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't actually want to perform the template merge so that the links are preserved per the guidelines, it is OK to leave them in the holding cell for someone who is willing to do so. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:06, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Have to think of what links our best for our readers.... have to remember those at the merger talk don't actually edit the articles in question and have no clue about the value of each article. Rule of thumb is top level articles in country nav templates so is still useful as outlined at WP:NAV-WITHIN. As for WP:BIDIRECTIONAL it is only used for pop culture type articles..... academic articles just don't follow mass link spam of this nature because they're generally better organized. Most of these deleted templates will simply be recreated over time as people will think that they are missing. We have people that all they do is make templates and we have people all that they do is be involved in discussions about templates. Moxy🍁 22:20, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: I think this is a much deeper structural issue. Looking at something like for the Netherlands or France, we see this issue is present as well. The intersection between those who know enough about the countries in question to decide which links to use, those who can use AWB/JWB to replace the templates, and those who have the time to do all of those is basically zero. It's better to just replace the culture box with the navbox, since otherwise nothing will be done. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 10:36, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Dianemromero (10:51, 27 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello,

I am in the process of editing the 'Riverside South Manhattan' page with revisions about the history of the development of the project. My edits use three sources mainly from direct government city council links, an official New York city council city planning book, and a newspaper article from 1984.

This is my first time editing a wikipedia page and I had trouble with the citation code. I am under the impression that I should have hit preview instead of publish in order to view the code and that may have flagged my edits.

I would love to learn more about the process in order to submit well qualifying edits in the future. --Dianemromero (talk) 10:51, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Dianemromero: welcome to Wikipedia! I can see your edits were reverted by @Khagendrawiki so maybe they can give their rationale. If you're using the visual editor (as I can see in the tags) then you don't need all that code - just click the "cite" button in the top toolbar. If you want to do it manually with the source editor just let me know and I can explain. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 10:41, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I also noticed my IP addressed was blocked and I think I had a VPN on in the background. When i disconnect it it looks like I can continue to edit the page. Should I proceed with my edit or will this get me blocked again? I would rather wait than lose access to the talk page. Dianemromero (talk) 04:11, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
