Wikipedia:Offline Content Generator
Appearance
| The Wikimedia Foundation's book rendering service has been withdrawn. Please upload your Wikipedia book to one of the alternative external rendering services. |
| This page is currently inactive and is retained for historical reference. Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus on its purpose has become unclear. To revive discussion, seek broader input via a forum such as the village pump. It was last substantively updated May 2021. |
The Offline content generator (OCG) was previously used to build books from collections of Wikipedia pages.
A group of pages could be selected to form a book in any of several formats, via the Book Creator which in turn used the OCG to convert the articles to the selected book format.
Withdrawal
[edit]OCG became unmaintainable and Wikipedia stopped using OCG in 2017, as part of a general withdrawal from all Wikimedia Foundation sites.
Page PDF creation does not use OCG and has remained available.
Replacement
[edit]The intention is to replace OCG with a new facility. The first two attempts at a replacement failed. As of May 2018, PediaPress have agreed to seek a solution.
You can create and edit a Wikipedia book design using the Book Creator and upload it to an external rendering service:
