白宮建築群的東翼（英語：East Wing）最初於1902年落成，1942年曾大幅擴建，並於2025年拆卸重建，新設計將包括白宮宴會廳。

東翼位於西翼對面，長期作為美國第一夫人及其幕僚的辦公場所，當中包括白宮社交秘書、信函部門人員，以及圖文與書法辦公室。上述單位在重建期間已暫時遷出，待新東翼完工後再遷回[1][2][3]。

東翼經由東柱廊與白宮主樓相連，走廊內設有白宮家庭劇院，並連接至行政官邸。東翼下方是總統緊急行動中心，這座設施為總統提供安全的地下避難空間[4]。

美國總統湯瑪士·謝佛遜時代曾在白宮東、西兩側加建設有柱廊的露台，但當時並無興建翼樓。1834年，總統安德魯·傑克遜任內，從泉水引入自來水，透過金屬管道抽送至東側露台。這些管線穿牆而過，並以水龍頭控制。最初水源僅供清洗之用，後來白宮在地面層東柱廊內設置了首批浴室，總統馬丁·范布倫更在此增設淋浴設備。

1866年，白宮拆除東露台，其後多年以來東側庭園位置一直由溫室佔用。

首座東翼於1902年建成，屬總統西奧多·羅斯福任內翻修白宮工程的一部分，設計用途是接待正式及公眾訪客。該入口主要在大型社交活動期間啟用，以容納大量汽車與馬車抵達。建築的主要特色是一條長形衣帽間，方便賓客存放外套與帽子[3]。

1942年，白宮增建一座兩層高的東翼，主要為掩飾正在興建的地下防空設施，現稱總統緊急行動中心。同時，西奧多·羅斯福時期設置的衣帽間被納入新翼結構，並改建為白宮家庭劇院。

其後，白宮將信函處理部門、書法辦公室及社交秘書處設於東翼內。

1977年，第一夫人羅莎琳·卡特成為首位在東翼設立個人辦公室的第一夫人[5][6]。社交辦公室負責處理白宮所有活動的邀請函及相關書面通信[7]。

一般參觀或出席活動的訪客，通常從東翼訪客辦公室入內，經過鑲木的前廳，廳內懸掛着歷任總統與第一夫人的肖像。隨後，他們會穿過花園廳，沿東柱廊前行，能眺望賈桂琳·甘迺迪花園，經過家庭劇院，再抵達訪客門廳，最後由地面層進入官邸。

據前第一夫人勞拉·布殊的幕僚長安妮塔·麥克布萊德回憶，貝蒂·福特曾如此形容東翼的意義：「如果西翼是國家的頭腦，那麼東翼便是國家的心臟[3]。」

白宮於同年7月發佈擬建白宮宴會廳的設計圖[8]。初期方案預計可容納約650名賓客，但其後修改為最多900人[9]。克拉克建築公司獲批2億美元合約[10]，工程原定於2025年9月動工[11][12]。

下令拆卸重建東翼的總統當勞·特朗普於同年7月31日表示，新宴會廳「不會影響現有建築結構」，「不會觸及原有部分」，並強調會「完全尊重現有建築，我可是這棟建築最大的擁躉[13]。」

東翼的拆卸於10月20日展開[14]，並未經由負責聯邦建設項目的國家首都規劃委員會審批[15][16]。翌日（10月21日），在工程未經公佈的情況下已開始進行，國家歷史保護信託表示反對，批評計劃中新宴會廳面積達9萬平方呎（約8400平方米），將「壓過」現有5萬5千平方呎（約5100平方米）的白宮主樓，並「永久破壞白宮原本兩翼比例和諧、古典平衡的設計格局[17]。」

10月22日，一名白宮官員向NBC新聞表示，整個東翼最終將「全面現代化及重建」。該官員補充，工程計劃自始並非定案：「宴會廳項目的範圍與規模會隨施工過程調整[13][15][18]。」

同日稍後，特朗普在橢圓形辦公室出席活動時對記者說：「我們與世界頂尖建築師進行了大量研究後決定，拆卸現有結構是最合適的方案。東翼原本所剩無幾，要真正做好，就必須拆掉舊建築重新開始[19]。」

10月23日，美聯社發佈的照片顯示，整個東翼，包括東柱廊及白宮家庭劇院，已被完全拆除[20][21][22]。不過，白宮已計劃修復家庭劇院，並予以「現代化翻新」[23]。

白宮東翼的拆卸工程引起多方批評[24][25][26]。

負責拆卸項目的ACECO公司在網上接獲大量負評[27]，隨後關閉其官方網站[28]及Instagram帳號[29]。

在10月21日播出的霍士新聞訪問中，被主持人傑西·華特斯訪問白宮新聞秘書卡羅琳·萊維特形容外界的批評是「假發火」。她把民主黨人的反應歸咎於「嫉妒心理」。她又聲稱，時任總統巴拉克·奧巴馬曾抱怨要在南草坪搭帳篷舉行國宴。不過，現有資料顯示，奧巴馬在兩次（2009年接待印度、2016年接待意大利）國宴中，並無發表過此類抱怨[30]。

根據YouGov於10月22日公佈的民調，多數受訪美國人反對拆卸東翼的決定，53%表示不贊成，僅有24%表示支持[31]。
