Meta:Requests for adminship

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
(Redirected from Requests for adminship)
Shortcut:
WM:RFA
This page hosts requests for administrator access on the Meta-Wiki; for requesting administrator access on any other wiki, please find the appropriate venue on the index of request and proposal pages. Requests for bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight and bot, as well as removal of them (other than inactivity) are also made here. Before making a request here, please see the administrator policy.

Most requests should be listed here for at least seven days; bureaucrats should only close after the minimum time foreseen in the relevant policy. Discussions are not closed early. Adminship will be granted by a support ratio of at least 75%. If a request hasn't been addressed by a bureaucrat after a lengthy period of time, please leave a note at Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Requests may be extended, or put on hold by bureaucrats, pending decision or finding of consensus.

Requests for temporary adminship and bot requests may be less formal and often go for a shorter duration if consensus becomes clear after only a few days of discussion.

All editors with an account on Meta, at least one active account on any Wikimedia project, and a link between the two, may participate in any request and give their opinion of the candidate. However, more active Meta editors' opinions may be given additional weight in controversial cases.

See below for information on prerequisites on submitting a request, and how to add a nomination.

Wikimedia Meta-Wiki

Information

Note that this page is for access on Meta only. See the permission request to stewards page for adminship/deadminship requests on other projects.

Regular adminship

  1. Before requesting admin access, please check the policy for requesting adminship.
  2. Use the box below, insert your username:

  3. Place a request on this page, by transcluding the subpage, for example {{Meta:Requests for adminship/Username}}. Please put the newest request on the bottom. Bear in mind that even if you do meet the criteria above this does not mean that the community will automatically approve a request.
  4. Please note, past administrators who have given up their rights must meet all criteria at the time of the new request. There is no separate process for reinstating past administrators.

Please note: Ill-considered nominations for adminship can be draining and deflating to both the community and the candidate. Any successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate sufficient experience within the Wikimedia community, in addition to a familiarity with Meta-Wiki. If a candidate is not already a local administrator or holder of advanced permissions on a Wikimedia content project, they are less likely to pass a request for adminship here at Meta-Wiki.

Bureaucratship

Add your request below under the bureaucratship section. Please note:

  • Only active administrators can become bureaucrats, and only after at least 6 months of regular adminship.
  • User is endorsed by two current bureaucrats after they nominate themselves here.

If you fail any of these requirements, you will not be assigned the bureaucrat flag. For more information see the Meta bureaucrat page.

Other access

For these types of access, create a subpage just as you would for regular adminship and add it to the appropriate section of this page.

  • Limited adminship: If you need sysop access for a particular reason (such as ability to edit protected pages), you may request limited adminship on Meta. If granted, the user understands that they will only be allowed to use the tools for the tasks they were approved, and not doing so will be grounds for immediate removal. Temporary sysop access will normally be valid for one month unless requested and granted otherwise.

  • CheckUser: please read the CheckUser policy and add your request below under the checkuser section, in the same way as an admin request.

  • Oversight: please read the Oversight policy and add your request below under the oversight section, in the same way as an admin request.

For these types of access, just ask on Meta request for help from a sysop or bureaucrat page:

Requests for global renamer permissions are handled at global permission requests to stewards page.

Wikimedia Foundation staff and contractors

If you are a Wikimedia Foundation staff member or contractor and need rights on Meta-Wiki to perform your duties, the request process is different. Please review the WMF staff userrights policy on officewiki[restricted access] and follow the procedure described there. If in doubt, please contact Trust and Safety by sending an email to ca@wikimedia.org.(source)

Requests for regular adminship

Not ending before 20:00, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi all! I'm 기나ㅏㄴ(Ginaan), requesting for adminship. I'm admin on kowiki and GR. (also GRN, AFH)

Although my overall activity period is not very long, I have been interested in global projects since 2023 and began contributing more actively relatively recently. I'm also one of the most active users on Meta in recent months.

On my home wiki, I became an admin primarily because of my effectiveness in countering vandalism. I have considerable experience in this area and am confident in the quality of my work.

While Meta differs from local wikis (especially in that tools such as the blacklist and global abuse filters can affect the entire network) I believe I can handle these responsibilities responsibly, as I have the necessary technical understanding.

My work would mainly focus on handling RFH requests, processing deletion requests, and managing abuse filters. As always, I wish to serve the community, and having these tools would allow me to do so more efficiently. I am not requesting IA, as I do not currently need them.

  • Support Support Okay, I think I see a specific need as they have plenty of deletion taggings in their deleted contributions, even though their activity is a bit recent (from this year onwards). Jianhui67 talkcontribs 20:08, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not changing my vote, but I just want to remind you to be more careful when performing actions if you were to become an administrator here. You erroneously tagged this page for deletion, and if you were an administrator at this point of time the page could have been wrongly deleted. So please check the page history before performing actions. Thank you. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 09:16, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was clearly a mistake. I will be more careful. Thank you. 𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓪𝓪𝓷기나ㅏㄴ(T/C) 09:21, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Oppose You have only been active in reporting vandals at WM:RfH for the past month, with 41 noticeboard edits and your first report made just 30 days ago. A similar pattern is seen in deletion requests, as most of your tagging activity comes from the last month, and your anti vandalism work has also started only recently. For these reasons, I cannot support an adminship request on a project like Meta Wiki, which can affect many projects, based on just one month of activity, though I would be happy to support a future request. In addition, you have been using the DeepSeek LLM with this script for translations without clearly stating that the output is reviewed for quality before saving, or that the content is not saved directly as generated by the LLM. – DreamRimmer 09:58, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, DR! I acknowledge the concern about the relatively short duration of my activity. While I've long been interested in and involved with global Wikimedia projects, my activity specifically on Meta-wiki has indeed been more recent and concentrated over a shorter period of time. I applied because I believe I have a solid understanding of global projects, but I also recognize I may still have shortcomings. Regardless of the outcome of this request, I will take your feedback seriously and reflect on it.
Regarding the use of scripts and LLMs, I'd like to clarify my perspective. I believed the use of an LLM should always be disclosed, which is why I consistently mentioned it in edit summaries whenever the script button was used, regardless of whether the generated translation was ultimately adopted in full. But I did not consider that explicitly stating human review was also necessary. Due to the structural differences between ko and en, using such tools can significantly improve efficiency. That said, all translations do go through my own review (for longer texts, I usually translate the full context at once before submitting to ensure coherence), and I also use the tool to improve and correct many existing Korean translations. While the volume of ko translations is relatively high, many existing translations are quite awkward or unnatural, and part of my motivation has been to improve their overall quality. Regards, --𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓪𝓪𝓷기나ㅏㄴ(T/C) 12:03, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for being willing to take feedback seriously, and I would be happy to support a future request if this one does not pass. It is fine when you are using the tool yourself, since you created it and understand the responsibility involved, but if it is used by other new users, I am concerned that this could lead to more machine translations being added without proper review, as it would not always be clear which translations were checked for errors and which were saved directly. This is likely why the ContentTranslation extension is restricted to certain user groups on some wikis, and an admin should be mature enough to understand the consequences of making such a tool easily available. Although this LLM related concern is not the main reason for my oppose to your RfA, I would suggest adding a clear cautionary note in the script interface. This may not be the best option, but it could help limit machine translations. – DreamRimmer 12:56, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
