Protic solvent
Appearance
A protic solvent is a type of solvent that can easily give up hydrogen ions (often called protons in chemistry). Protic solvents can react with Brønsted bases, or make hydrogen bonds with solutes (or other solvent molecules) that have lone pairs. Water is the most common protic solvent.
All protic solvents are polar, but not all polar solvents are protic.
