History of Tokyo
[change source]The article about Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō; "Eastern Capital") covers everything about Tokyo from 1457 through the present.
The relationship between the versions of Tokyo is not easy to simplify:
- 1457-1869: historical Edo (江戸, Edō)
- 1869-1943: historical Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tokyo-fu)
- 1869-1943: historical Tokyo, Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi)
- 1943-present: Tokyo (東京都, Tōkyō-to), redirect Tokyo Metropolis
