Template:AI-retrieved source
This {{AI-retrieved source}}
template will automatically place tagged articles into Category: Wikipedia articles needing factual verification.
Usage
[edit]Put the following after the reference—after and outside of the closing </ref> tag—to flag it as being retrieved using an AI, such as ChatGPT, and request that someone ensures that the source supports the material in the passage so as to satisfy the policy on verifiability:
{{AI-retrieved source|date=October 2025}}
Please only add the {{AI-retrieved source}}
template if you have a good reason to believe that the source is AI-retrieved. For instance, ChatGPT (but not other large language models) will add UTM parameters to sources it generates indicating their provenance, as can be seen with this search.
If you did attempt to verify the information, and failed, this template might not be the right one to use. AI models have a tendency to hallucinate sources, and dubious content should be removed as a first resort. If multiple sources all fail verification, and the article is recent enough, consider tagging it for G15 speedy deletion instead.
If you did successfully verify the information, add |checked=
to the template, which will suppress the display and indicate to future editors that the source has been verified. If this would cause issues with the template limit, you can comment out the template instead.
If the information needs verification, but there isn't evidence of it having been generated by AI, use {{Verify source}}
.
