Development

Plans for a Wicked movie started many years after the musical became successful on Broadway. In 2021, Jon M. Chu was chosen as director.[9] In 2022, it was announced that the movie would be split into two parts so that more of the story and songs could be included.[10]

Filming took place in the United Kingdom from 2022 to 2024, with cinematography by Alice Brooks.[11] Myron Kerstein edited the movie.[12]

The film features both classic songs from the musical and new music by Stephen Schwartz. The score is composed by John Powell.[13]

Wicked: For Good will be released on November 21, 2025, in the United States by Universal Pictures.[14]
