Xavier Bettel (born 3 March 1973) is a Luxembourgish politician and lawyer who has been the 14th Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg since 2023. He was the 24th Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 2013 to 2023. He replaced Jean-Claude Juncker. He has served as Mayor of Luxembourg City, member of the Chamber of Deputies and member of the Luxembourg City communal council.[1][2] Bettel is a member of the Democratic Party.
Bettel is openly gay.[3] He is one of three openly gay world leaders in office, the others being Leo Varadkar, the prime minister of Ireland;[4] and Ana Brnabić, the Prime Minister of Serbia.
