維基百科資料庫中最早保存的編輯，曾被認為是2001年1月16日對「UuU」頁面的修訂。該頁建立為一份以字母U開頭的國家清單，其標題因當時軟體限制而顯得特殊[5][6]。然而，當時使用的UseModWiki軟體對頁面歷史的儲存並不穩定。2010年，維基媒體開發者提姆·斯塔林（Tim Starling）在檔案中發現了以前無法訪問的早期UseModWiki修訂的紀錄[7]，2019年7月30日協調世界時02:28，這些編輯被匯入維基百科資料庫[8][9]。最早的編輯紀錄更新為2001年1月15日，由一名匿名使用者透過office.bomis.com伺服器建立的「首頁」，內容為「This is the new WikiPedia!」[10]在得知這些編輯被匯入後，威爾士表示：

許多維基百科編者基於不同理由反對此次銷售。[18][19] 部分編者，包括管理員，認為威爾斯利用自己的使用者頁面宣傳銷售，違反了維基百科禁止自我宣傳的指導原則。[18]其他編者則批評這次銷售，認為NFT的人為稀缺性與維基百科開放源碼及自由知識的理念不相容。[18][19] 他們普遍不反對威爾士出售當時使用的iMac，但反對NFT，認為這代表盈利行為侵入了平台。[19]
