Wikipedia:Proposed article splits

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Proposed article splits is a noticeboard for active discussions to split an article into separate articles. Usually, articles are split if they're too large or an element of an existing article gains enough notoriety. Before listing a split discussion here, read Wikipedia:Splitting and initiate a discussion on the article's talk page. Listing an ongoing split discussion here is purely optional, but can help reach consensus.

This noticeboard is not for:

  • Proposing splits without starting a discussion on the article's talk page. Listings that do not link to a merge discussion will be removed from this noticeboard.
  • Discussing proposed splits. A link to the split discussion should be included in the listing and consensus to split should be reached there, not on this noticeboard. Comments of support or opposition may be removed.
  • Listing article merges or moves. For these, see Proposed article mergers and Moving a page;

If a split is unlikely to be contested, you can be bold and complete it without initiating a discussion. If your split is later contested, another editor can revert and discuss it. To see all articles currently tagged for merging, see § All articles tagged for merging, as well as Category:Articles to be merged. If consensus to split is reached on the article's talk page, the listing on this noticeboard should be moved into the section § Successful requests, merger pending and tagged with AwaitAwaiting split.... If consensus against splitting is reached, the listing can be tagged with Not done and it can be archived.

To tag the article and initiate a split discussion, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Splitting § Procedure. Once the article has been tagged and a discussion has been opened, you can list the split discussion to the bottom of this list using the format:

* Split Original article into First split article and Second split article. ~~~~

Articles proposed for splitting

[edit]
  • Split AS Val and VSS Vintorez into AS Val and VSS Vintorez. Two different type of rifles, AS Val is an assault rifle, while the VSS Vintorez is a sniper rifle. The VSS Vintorez was also developed prior to the AS Val, giving the rifle more precedence.
    • Benefits of having them split: To allow the articles to focus on the history and development of each rifle. This would make it easier when linking pages as well. It also gives a more unify format across the different Wikipedia languages. Currently, the AS Val and VSS Vintorez both have individual pages on other languages.

If agreed, I cannot do the split and would require assistance. 112.198.87.102 (talk) 22:45, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This request has been opposed at Talk:WarnerMedia and this user appears to have a pattern of making such requests without any legitimate reason other than their own opinion of the companies. Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:17, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split Crunchyroll into Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll, Inc.. I think the article can be split into the Crunchyroll article by covering some parts of history in the lead section, The Anime Awards and Crunchyroll Expo to form another article called Crunchyroll, Inc. which highlights, apart from the launch of the streaming platform, how the media company was founded, its origins from May 2006 to mid-March 2022, being merged with Funimation to Crunchyroll, LLC as both companies closed between 2022 and 2023 until 2024. 190.166.242.220 (talk) 23:00, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split Marketing ethics into Marketing Ethics and Ethics in Advertising and Promotion. The section on advertising ethics covers distinct issues, such as manipulation, stereotyping, and social responsibility, which differ from the broader scope of marketing ethics. The current content lacks citations and quality, it seems a textbook rather than a wiki entry. A standalone article would be easier to edit. If agreed, I ‘‘cannot’’ do the split myself as this is my first time, but I can contribute by editing the “Ethics in Advertising and Promotion” section. • (DISCUSS) SPLIT the K-Pop article into: K-Pop, K-Pop Dance, K-Pop Trainee System, K-Pop Fan Culture. The current main K-Pop article is too long. These topics warrant their own articles & I think in-depth analysis will be more productive in their own dedicated spaces. Their existing parts in the current K-Pop article would be reduced significantly and links to the dedicated pages would be made. This would simplify the K-Pop article whilst enabling greater documentatin of K-Pop culture on Wikipedia. If agreed, I will do this split. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itzybella8 (talkcontribs) 01:54, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split Pejorative into Prejorative and Slur. A pejorative and a slur are distinct concepts, though related. A pejorative is any term used to express contempt or disapproval, while a slur is a specific type of pejorative that targets social groups with discriminatory intent. Slurs often involve stereotyping, typically insulting individuals or groups based on factors like ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or cognitive ability. Although dictionaries like Oxford and Wiktionary recognize this distinction, it's important to acknowledge that the modern, collective understanding of these terms evolves, and not all resources like these may reflect current usage. It is imperative to furthermore consider, for example, how the term "slur" is commonly used to refer to specific terms such as the N-word, which is viewed not just as a simple "curse word" but as a discriminate with a history of racism -- a term that falls under the definition that I have presented. Other derogatory terms like the wikt:F-slur (note this euphemistic title, and how it differs from the "F-word") and the wikt:R-slur are akin to this due to their similar constitutions in society today. If agreed, I will do the split.

P.S. I have no experience splitting articles and would think if a significant amount needs to be moved from the Internet celbirity to the new article that I have created, someone else should handle that.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 22:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split Ashley Gorley into Ashley Gorley and Tape Room Music. Although Ashley Gorley founded Tape Room Music, it is its entirely own company with 5 employees, a roster of 14 writers, and over 40 number ones. It is powerhouse independent music publishing company that should have its own page to distinguish between the two. If agreed, I cannot do the split, as I have never done one and do not know how to do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emmajedow (talkcontribs) 15:50, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

8 *Split Tornado outbreak of March 13-16, 2025 into Tornado outbreak of March 13-16, 2025 and 2025 Tylertown EF4 Tornado. The tornado, (Tylertown) has alot of sources and notability. I think it would need a page, due to the fact that this is an absolute HISTORIC tornado outbreak, and atleast 1 tornado on this page needs a page, and I think that tornado is the long tracked EF4 tornado. If agreed, I will do the split., Shaneapickle (talk) 14:29, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Split Japanese horror into Japanese horror and J-horror. (On this page it says one of the links should be red... here "J-horror" is just a redirect to "Japanese horror") This is quite a complicated issue. The article currently presents "J-horror" as merely a synonym for "Japanese horror", which I contend is definitely not true. I have never heard it used outside the discussion of film, and even within the discussion of film, I am of the opinion it more properly refers to a specific movement or subgenre within Japanese horror cinema. I'm not quite sure how the decision of how to interpret this works - you can certainly find "J-horror" used to just mean "Japanese horror films" (many lists and things will use it this way) but in my experience, in scholarly works and by the filmmakers themselves, it is generally used to specifically refer to a new style of Japanese horror film which grew out of TV and V-cinema (direct-to-video) productions in the early 1990s (see Tom Mes - Japanese Film and the Challenge of Video and Michael Crandol - Ghost in the Well). If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. I wouldn't mind doing some work on the J-horror page but I'm pretty inexperienced and don't think I could commit to doing it all. Devolution in England Split into Draft:Devolution in England with the recent discussion around English devolution and particularly the English Devolution bill I think that this topic should have a dedicated article.ChefBear01 (talk) 17:34, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Split Petz into Petz (PF.Magic) and Petz (Ubisoft). There is a gap of 3 years between the last of the PF.Magic Petz series games and the first of the Ubisoft Petz games. The former is a cohesive series with a distinct style, while the latter is more realistic on average, primarily consists of foreign localized games, and entries are rarely connected to each other, let alone the original series. As a result, this page is very messy and broad - while the Ubisoft article will be regardless due to the circumstances, I don't think it's fair to the much more cohesive group of games (Dogz and Catz, Oddballz, Petz 2-5, and Babyz). If agreed, I {will} do the split. ⋆˚꩜。 serilly! (he/him) (talk) 16:24, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split 2023 Hpakant jade mine disaster into 2023 Hpakant jade mine disaster and Jade mining in Myanmar. Most of this article about a specific mining disaster is about jade mining in Myanmar more generally with, the article would benefit from being trimmed down to contain information only about the specific disaster with the more general topic of jade mining in Myanmar being a separate article. If agreed, I cannot do the split, the article could do with some copyediting and a more expert pair of eyes to assess any potential POV issues as it is being split.
