The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Feminism and Folklore 2025 starts soon

Dear Wiki Community,

You are humbly invited to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2025 writing competition from February 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025 on your local Wikipedia. This year, Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics for the project, with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.

You can help Wikipedia's coverage of folklore from your area by writing or improving articles about things like folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, women and queer folklore figures, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales, and more. Users can help create new articles, expand or translate from a generated list of suggested articles.

Organisers are requested to work on the following action items to sign up their communities for the project:

Create a page for the contest on the local wiki.
Set up a campaign on CampWiz tool.
Create the local list and mention the timeline and local and international prizes.
Request local admins for site notice.
Link the local page and the CampWiz link on the meta project page.

This year, the Wiki Loves Folklore Tech Team has introduced two new tools to enhance support for the campaign. These tools include the Article List Generator by Topic and CampWiz. The Article List Generator by Topic enables users to identify articles on the English Wikipedia that are not present in their native language Wikipedia. Users can customize their selection criteria, and the tool will present a table showcasing the missing articles along with suggested titles. Additionally, users have the option to download the list in both CSV and wikitable formats. Notably, the CampWiz tool will be employed for the project for the first time, empowering users to effectively host the project with a jury. Both tools are now available for use in the campaign. I'm a contributor to Wikipedia in French and I don't speak Emiliano, Romagnolo or Italian well enough, so I'm going to do it in English and put an automatic translation into Italian below. Feel free to reply in Italian, I can translate it automatically, but I can't be sure that what I write in Italian is 100% accurate.

I am working on templates and language codes on wp.fr, and there is a little problem with eml that is the Wikipedia code for this linguistical version, and that was formerly the IETF BCP 47 and ISO 639-3 codes for Emiliano-Romagnolo, but since 2008, it has been made obsolete and split into egl and rgn[1], as linguists decided that the two varieties are different enough to be classified as two different languages.

What I would like to know is what variety/language is used in this Wikipedia and are they really dicernernable in most texts, and more importantly, are sources that say that a text is written in Emiliano-Romagnolo are obsolete, and what valid IETF code should be used to tag the content of this wiki.

I don't want this message to become a point of discord or a bashing of the people and organisations that changed the codes, I just want to know what the most recent reliable sources think of this issue.

Vorrei spiegarti che questo progetto appunto è ancora unito nella parlata EML. Ci sono alcune sporadiche voci che vorrebbero scinderlo nelle due varianti che anche tu citi [3], ma occorrerà vedere se le forze e le competenze tecniche del volontariato (perché di questo si tratta) riusciranno nell'impresa (io, per es., non mi cimento, in quanto è già un miracolo se riesco a procedere a passetti nella correzione di miei stessi vecchi artt. già editati in passato). Faccio anche notare che la prevalenza degli artt. finora qua scritti sono della variante EGL (circa 4000 in miranduléś + 3000 in carpśàn + 3000 in mudnéś + 700 in piasintëin + 400 in bulgnéś + 400 in arzân + 123 in pramzàn, che sommati, fanno un tot di circa 11.600 artt. scritti in EGL [4]). The proposed modifications to the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines and the U4C Charter are now on Meta-wiki for community notice in advance of the voting period. This final draft was developed from the previous two rounds of community review. Community members will be able to vote on these modifications starting on 17 April 2025. The vote will close on 1 May 2025, and results will be announced no later than 12 May 2025. The U4C election period, starting with a call for candidates, will open immediately following the announcement of the review results. More information will be posted on the wiki page for the election soon.

The campaign is dedicated to famous Ukrainian artists of cinema, music, literature, architecture, design, and cultural phenomena of Ukraine that are now part of world heritage. We accept contributions in every language!

The most active contesters will receive prizes.

itWikiCon 2025 dal 7 al 9 novembre 2025 a Catania: prossimi passi

Ciao a tutti,

come forse già sapete, la ‘’’ItWikiCon 2025’’’, il convegno annuale della comunità italofona dei progetti Wikimedia, si terrà ‘’’a Catania da venerdì 7 a domenica 9 novembre’’’.

Per una panoramica generale, vi rimandiamo alla ‘’’sezione Programma’’’, che aggiorneremo regolarmente nei prossimi mesi e nella quale trovate già la ‘’’scheda delle attività’’’, nonché alla sezione Informazioni.

In attesa dell’apertura ufficiale della fase di proposte prevista per il prossimo 3 giugno, la commissione Programma vorrebbe sondare i desideri delle comunità italofone in merito ai temi da trattare alla conferenza: quali sono gli argomenti più importanti da coprire, secondo voi? Che discussioni dobbiamo avere durante l’itWikiCon? ‘’’Potete aggiungere dei temi o commentare quelli proposti dagli altri sulla pagina Temi da ora fino a inizio giugno’’’.

Infine, per chi ha la necessità di richiedere una borsa di partecipazione per coprire le spese di viaggio e alloggio, ‘’’la fase di richieste di borse sarà aperta dal 17 giugno fino al 27 luglio’’’. Si svolge un po’ prima rispetto alle ultime edizioni, per permettervi di organizzare il vostro viaggio a Catania nelle condizioni migliori, quindi segnatevi queste date per non perdervi la fase di richieste!

We will be enabling the new Charts extension on your wiki soon!

Hi all! We have good news to share regarding the ongoing problem with graphs and charts affecting all wikis that use them.

As you probably know, the old Graph extension was disabled in 2023 due to security reasons. We’ve worked in these two years to find a solution that could replace the old extension, and provide a safer and better solution to users who wanted to showcase graphs and charts in their articles. We therefore developed the Charts extension, which will be replacing the old Graph extension and potentially also the EasyTimeline extension.

After successfully deploying the extension on Italian, Swedish, and Hebrew Wikipedia, as well as on MediaWiki.org, as part of a pilot phase, we are now happy to announce that we are moving forward with the next phase of deployment, which will also include your wiki.

The deployment will happen in batches, and will start from May 6. Please, consult our page on MediaWiki.org to discover when the new Charts extension will be deployed on your wiki. You can also consult the documentation about the extension on MediaWiki.org.

If you have questions, need clarifications, or just want to express your opinion about it, please refer to the project’s talk page on Mediawiki.org, or ping me directly under this thread. If you encounter issues using Charts once it gets enabled on your wiki, please report it on the talk page or at Phabricator.

You may now submit your candidacy to serve on the U4C through 29 May 2025 at 12:00 UTC. Information about eligibility, process, and the timeline are on Meta-wiki. Voting on candidates will open on 1 June 2025 and run for two weeks, closing on 15 June 2025 at 12:00 UTC.

RfC ongoing regarding Abstract Wikipedia (and your project)

Hello all! We opened a discussion on Meta about a very delicate issue for the development of Abstract Wikipedia: where to store the abstract content that will be developed through functions from Wikifunctions and data from Wikidata. Since some of the hypothesis involve your project, we wanted to hear your thoughts too.

We want to make the decision process clear: we do not yet know which option we want to use, which is why we are consulting here. We will take the arguments from the Wikimedia communities into account, and we want to consult with the different communities and hear arguments that will help us with the decision. The decision will be made and communicated after the consultation period by the Foundation.

Elezioni del 2025 del Board of Trustees di Wikimedia Foundation - Selezione e domande

Buongiorno,

Quest'anno, il mandato di 2 (due) membri del Board selezionati dalla comunità e dagli affiliati nel Board of Trustees di Wikimedia Foundation giungerà a termine [1]. Il Board invita tutto il movimento a partecipare al processo di selezione di quest'anno e a votare per occupare questi posti.

La commissione elettorale supervisionerà questo processo con il supporto dello staff della Foundation [2]. Il Comitato per la governance, composto da membri del Board che non sono candidati al processo di selezione del 2025 selezionati dalla comunità e dagli affiliati (Raju Narisetti, Shani Evenstein Sigalov, Lorenzo Losa, Kathy Collins, Victoria Doronina e Esra'a Al Shafei) [3], ha il compito di fornire una supervisione del Board per il processo di selezione dei membri del Board del 2025 e di tenere informato il Board. Ecco le date principali previste:

Invito a porre domande

In ogni processo di selezione, la comunità ha l'opportunità di presentare domande alle quali i candidati del Board of Trustees dovranno rispondere. La commissione elettorale seleziona dall'elenco elaborato dalla comunità le domande a cui i candidati dovranno rispondere. Per essere eleggibili, i candidati devono rispondere a tutte le domande richieste nella candidatura; in caso contrario, la loro candidatura sarà annullata. Quest'anno, la commissione elettorale selezionerà 5 domande alle quali i candidati dovranno rispondere. Le domande selezionate possono essere una combinazione di quelle presentate dalla comunità, se sono simili o correlate. [link]

Un altro modo per partecipare al processo di selezione del 2025 è quello di essere un volontario per l'elezione. Upcoming Deployment of the CampaignEvents Extension

Hello everyone,

The Campaigns Product Team is planning a global deployment of the CampaignEvents extension to all Wikipedias, including this wiki, during the week of June 23rd.

This extension is designed to help organizers plan and manage events, WikiProjects, and other on-wiki collaborations - and to make these efforts more discoverable.

The three main features of this extension are:

Event Registration: A simple way to sign up for events on the wiki.
Collaboration List: A global list of events and a local list of WikiProjects, accessible at Special:AllEvents.
Invitation Lists: A tool to help organizers find editors who might want to join, based on their past contributions.

Note: The extension comes with a new user right called "Event Organizer", which will be managed by administrators on this wiki. Organizer tools like Event Registration and Invitation Lists will only work if someone is granted this right. The Collaboration List is available to everyone immediately after deployment.

The extension is already live on several wikis, including Meta, Wikidata, English Wikipedia, and more ( See the full deployment list)

itWikiCon 2025: fase di proposte per il programma aperta fino al 15 luglio

Ciao a tutti,

dichiariamo ufficialmente aperta la raccolta di proposte di sessioni per ItWikiCon 2025, il convegno annuale della comunità italofona dei progetti Wikimedia che si terrà a Catania da venerdì 7 a domenica 9 novembre.

Il programma dell’evento è costruito dal basso grazie a presentazioni, discussioni e laboratori proposti dalla comunità e selezionati dalla commissione Programma. La fase di proposte è ora aperta fino al 15 luglio incluso. Seguendo le istruzioni sulla pagina Proposte potete presentare una o più proposte di sessioni, talk o workshop che vi piacerebbe tenere durante l’evento.

L'itWikiCon è lo spazio di incontro dal vivo delle comunità dei vari progetti Wikimedia in italiano e nelle lingue regionali. Vi invitiamo a proporre sessioni che aiutano a rafforzare il senso di comunità e la voglia di contribuire ai progetti, ma anche a identificare dei problemi e individuare delle soluzioni. Daremo la priorità alle sessioni in cui tutti i partecipanti sono parte attiva, come ad esempio discussioni e laboratori.

Se cercate ispirazione, alcune richieste di temi sono state fatte sulla relativa pagina, a cui potete liberamente attingere per elaborare una proposta. Inoltre, per chi non se la sente di tenere una sessione, ma vorrebbe che durante la conferenza si parlasse di un argomento che gli sta a cuore, è possibile continuare ad aggiungere delle richieste di temi fino al 15 luglio.

La selezione delle proposte avverrà durante l’estate e i relatori saranno confermati a fine agosto. Nel frattempo, la fase di richieste di borse di partecipazione sarà aperta dal 17 giugno al 27 luglio, quindi se considerate di proporre una sessione per il programma, ma avete bisogno di supporto economico per raggiungere Catania, vi invitiamo a farne richiesta entro le scadenze previste.
